1. What is a domain name?
Answer: A domain name is the alphanumeric root level name of your website. It is the name that you will own after registering it with a company called a domain registrar. Annual fees for .com, .net or .org websites can be as high as USD (United States Dollars) $50 per year for one of those types of web addresses. Such domain extensions like .biz, .info, .us, .ws, etc. cost more than .com, .net and .org domains. Red Ibis Hosting starts its annual charges at USD $16 per year for .com, .org and .net domain registrations. Examples of domain names are: yahoo.com, temple.edu, whitehouse.gov., wwwac.org.
2. What is a web host?
Answer: A web host is a company that stores the data for your website on their computers (called servers). Their servers allow other computer users to view your website. These companies generally charge a monthly fee, which may run as high as thousands of dollars per month for big businesses. Most also charge a set-up fee that covers the configuration of the servers that will host your website. Red Ibis hosting offers web hosting packages that start at USD$18 per month. There are thousands of these companies from which to choose. All websites have web hosts.
3. What is the difference between a POP Email Account and an Email Forward Account?
Answer: Email forward accounts are "imaginary" accounts that actually redirect to a POP account. For instance, if you had an AOL email account of XYZwoman@aol.com that would be a POP account because you are able receive and reply to email from that account. If you registered the domain name of xyzwoman.com and wished to setup and email forward to your AOL account. You could do so by setting up the email forward of "info@xyzwoman.com". Once setup, any emails addressed to "info@xyzwoman.com" account would be sent to your XYZwoman@aol.com. So, should you reply to email messages sent to info@xyzwoman.com; it would reveal that you are actually receiving the message at your XYZwoman@aol.com account. However, if you had setup info@xyzwoman.com as a POP account; you would be able to receive emails and reply to emails from that "info" account just as you do with any AOL, Earthlink, Optonline, Yahoo, etc. email account.
Red Ibis hosting offers email hosting packages that start at USD$16 per month.
